Help & support

Everything you need to buy electricity on meter.ng, and what to do when something doesn't go to plan. Can't find it here? Email us and a person will reply.

Getting started

1. Create your account. Enter your phone number and we'll text you a six-digit code. There's no password to choose or forget.

2. Add your meter. Pick your DisCo, type your meter number, and we'll check it against the DisCo's own records. You'll see the registered name and address before you confirm — if they don't look right, the meter number is probably wrong.

3. Buy. Choose an amount, pay from your wallet or by card, and your token appears on screen and arrives by SMS.

Finding your meter number

It's the 11–13 digit number on your prepaid meter, usually printed on a sticker on the front or shown on the display when you press the button on the keypad. It also appears on any previous recharge receipt.

It isn't your account number, and it isn't the number on your electricity bill if you're on postpaid.

Entering your token

A token is 20 digits. Type it into your meter's keypad exactly as shown, without spaces — we group it in fours on screen only to make it easier to read. Most meters beep or show "Accept" when it's gone in.

Each token works on one meter only, and only once. Entering it a second time will be rejected — that's the meter protecting you, not a fault.

How AutoPower works

Once you've made a few purchases, meter.ng has enough history to estimate how quickly your meter drains. AutoPower uses that to recharge before you hit zero, and sends the token the same way as a manual purchase.

It only spends from your wallet balance, only on the meter you switched it on for, and you can turn it off at any time in Profile settings. If your balance is too low, we tell you instead of recharging.

Common questions

My token hasn't arrived. Check Transactions — every successful purchase keeps its token there, so you can copy it even if the SMS is delayed. If the purchase shows as pending for more than a few minutes, email us with the date and amount and we'll trace it.

I didn't get my login code. Codes can take a minute on a busy network. Wait for the timer, then tap resend. If nothing arrives, check the number you typed — it should be your Nigerian mobile number without the leading zero.

I typed the wrong meter number. If you haven't paid yet, go back and re-enter it. If a token was already generated against the wrong meter, contact us straight away with the transaction date — the sooner we hear, the more we can do.

What does it cost? A flat ₦100 service charge per recharge, shown before you pay. AutoPower costs nothing extra.

Which DisCos work? AEDC, PHED, IKEDC, EKEDC, IBEDC, EEDC, BEDC, JEDC, KAEDCO, YEDC and Aba (APLE).

Why is my minimum higher than I expected? Each DisCo sets its own minimum purchase. AEDC's, for example, is higher than most. We show the minimum for your meter once it's verified.

Still stuck?

  • Email hello@meter.ng — include your phone number and the date of the transaction.
  • For a failed or missing token, send the amount and meter number too. It speeds things up considerably.
  • If you manage meters for an estate, say so — those go to a different queue.
